Liberty Live Commission
You're invited!
While the Founding Fathers set about creating a new nation in the late 1700s, a group of women worked alongside them to influence the alliances and policies of what would become America. Sarah Livingston Jay, daughter of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and New Jersey governor and Adrienne de Noailles, Marquise de Lafayette are acquaintances, leading similar lives…until their paths diverge in dramatic fashion.
The Liberty Live Commission is a unique partnership with Kean University’s Liberty Hall Museum to develop and produce new plays that celebrate New Jersey’s rich and diverse history. Learn more about the museum by visiting the Liberty Hall Museum website.
5:00 - 8:00 pm
Kean Galleries & Collections Exhibition
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we are reminded of the role that paper played in shaping our early democracy. Paper records held by Kean Galleries and Collections and the adjacent Liberty Hall Museum, home to William Livingston, New Jersey’s first elected governor and a signer of the U.S. Constitution, and the Kean family into the twentieth century detail the lives of one New Jersey’s oldest families. This exhibition also borrows from the Kean Special Collections and Archives’ New Jersey Collection of maps, atlases, and manuscripts representing five centuries of state history.
The opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Liberty Hall Academic Center Gallery. Visit the Kean Foundation website for tickets to the Opening Reception.
