Academic Classes at Kean
“Playwriting for the Stage” teaches the fundamentals of playwriting and applies them to the creation of an original play for the stage. Students are given the opportunity to hear scenes from their work read aloud by professional actors in class. After taking the class, students are encouraged to submit their work to the Bauer-Boucher Playwriting Award.
Acting as a Profession
“Acting as a Profession” is a capstone course for B.F.A and B.A. students. Students interested in pursuing a career in the theatre study audition technique and the business skills necessary to become a professional actor. Industry professionals, including theatrical directors, talent agents, and casting directors, are brought into the class to provide additional insight.
Kean Theatre Conservatory
The Kean Theatre Conservatory offers students the knowledge, skills, and critical perspectives necessary for building a strong foundation for a lifelong engagement with their art and their world. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, Kean University’s Theatre Conservatory mirrors the university’s mission to provide a core educational foundation based on the liberal arts. Their curricula are designed to educate theatre students to enter the realm of professional theatre, theatre education or advanced graduate studies.
