Administrative Internships

All interns take weekly seminars as part of the program, as well as go on a field trip to New York City provided by Premiere stages.  Weekly check-ins with the Education & Play Festival Manager offer individualized attention toward personal goals and career planning.    

All administrative interns serve as front of house staff for productions, work production strikes, and assist with general office duties including filing, data entry, and poster runs.

Artistic / Literary

Provides the opportunity to contribute to the day-to-day producing activities of a professional theatre, and learn about the planning and producing of a theatrical season. Intern assists the producing artistic director and guest directors in rehearsals, assists with lobby displays and pre- and post-show talks, and helps coordinate staff and production meetings. Additional duties include assisting with Equity paperwork, assistance in preparation for the annual literary submission cycle, special event coordination, and assistance in rehearsal as needed. This position may serve as backstage crew or as an usher during performances depending on the needs of the production.

Box Office / Marketing

Provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with the director of audience services and box office manager to develop and implement marketing strategies for a professional theatre. Intern assists with advertising, group sales, social media, mailing list maintenance, and patron services and outreach. Additional duties include assisting with public relations and opening night event coordination. Previous experience with Adobe Suite,  Photoshop and/or InDesign, as well as AudienceView and/or other box office/marketing systems, is a plus. Intern works in the box office for all performances and select weekdays.

Education / Audience Engagement

Provides experience in all facets of educational initiatives, including supporting Camp Premiere, assisting with Play Factory Performances, and working with community partners to offer arts education and theatre access to underserved groups. Intern assists with the implementation of Camp Premiere by coordinating the registration process and assisting the Teaching Artist and Teaching Assistant in the execution of lesson plans and showcases.  Intern also assists with dramaturgical lobby displays and pre- and post-show talks, and researches and engages community partners for mainstage productions. Front-of-house support may be required on a limited basis for performances.

Theatre Management

Provides the unique opportunity to gain experience in company, and production management. Specific responsibilities include coordination of transportation for artists, gathering information on local resources to provide to artists and staff, assisting with coordination of company meals, and set up and running of rehearsals as needed. In the administrative office, intern works with budgets, calendars, and other managerial documents. In the scene shop, intern may also assist the Technical Director in tracking purchases as well as with scenic construction, hanging lights, painting, and more. Strong candidates will have a background in theatre and an interest in gaining a wide variety of backstage and management experience. A valid driver’s license and car are required for this internship. Interns are required to work backstage or front-of-house for performances.
